Happy Birthday Tim - living it up in Birmingham!
Thursday, November 29th, 2007Sadaf met Tim at the Bullring Centre where we spent an hour having a look around, mainly in Selfridges where Sadaf had a hair clip to exchange and the Apple shop where we admired the various ipods and phones. It really is a fantasic shopping centre!
We then got the train across to the NEC where we spent the afternoon at the Good Food Show. The usual array of food and drink stalls with lots of freebee samples. It was nice as it wasn’t too crowded and you could look around fairly easily, although we did get quite tired. We made one or two purchases.
Afterwards we made our way back to New Street and up to the Cineworld Cinema in Broad Street where we went to see ‘Brick Lane’. The website said that it was a 10 minute walk but it was more like a half hour walk! It was nice to walk through the German market and past the outdoor ice-skating rink and other attractions. We got to the cinema half an hour late but olny missed a few minutes of the film by the time we’d bought our ticket, popcorn and a drink. The film was very good - about a poor Bangladeshi family living in Brick Lane - the result of an arranged marriage 17 years before between a now 30 something woman wanted life outside the home and her middle aged husband who longed to return to Bangladesh.
After the film we walked back to New Street, past the bars and resturaunts, ice-skating rink and Germina Market where we stopped for a bite to eat. The atmosphere was electric. We got back to New Street and got the train home.
