An almost convincing sales pitch

This evening we went to a ‘holiday presentation’ in Redditch by a company called RCI. Not a timeshare - honestly! Not at all hard sell, a very softly softly approach. We had a ‘presentation’ by a young canadian girl, assisted occasionally by one of the managers, who explained about the scheme, which involved purchasing a canal boat which you could either use or exchange for holiday and leisure deals. It all sounded very appealing - discounts of up to 60% off hotels, flights, car hire and other leisure facilities, but nothing guarenteed in writing of course. Finally, 3 hours later (supposedly a 90 minute presentation) we were presented with the figures which amounted to around £8K in monthly installments + management fees. Anyone despite the tempting offer we had no intention of signing up and walked away with our £600 worth of holiday vouchers and free UK break. When we got home we did some research and found lots of dubious press about it on the internet and that the website was actually a timeshare site! We felt very relieved, but saddened that at least one elderly couple had signed up (as they were served champagne). Hopefully they’ll do OK out of it.
